If you come down our 1/4 mile long driveway to our farm, you’ll notice it’s not neatly mowed.
In some ways this drives me nuts…it looks unkempt….does anyone really live here?? 🙃
Usually it IS neatly mowed, but this year I told Walter not to mow it because I was noticing all kinds of lovely flowers coming up.
Several different kinds of clover.
Bird’s Foot Trefoil.
Alfalfa.
Milkweed
And my favorite because of it’s tall, purple flowers, chicory.
Each one is a shade of pink, purple, yellow or blue.
Each one has it’s own sweet smell.
It’s both lovely for us and a paradise for the bees…all those yummy selections. 🙂
Even in the heat that’s going on now, they are still blooming.
It makes for a pleasant walk down the driveway in the morning or evening. ❤️
I read somewhere once that nature is supposed to calm and relax us. Even bringing a small piece of nature indoors (like pinecones in a dish) can have a positive effect.
Isn’t it interesting that God gave us flowers not only for beauty but also for improving mental health?
Seeing that beauty along our driveway made me think of that section of Matthew 6 where Jesus tells us to think about flowers:
25 “For this reason I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
27 “Which of you can add a single moment to his lifespan by worrying? 28 Why do you worry about clothing? Consider how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin, 29 but I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will he not clothe you even more, you of little faith?
31 “So do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ 32 For the unbelievers chase after all these things. Certainly your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Matthew 6:25-34
Reading that….doesn’t it make your shoulders relax just thinking about it?
Here it is from Jesus’ own lips…there is absolutely no reason to worry…he promises to take care of those who belong to him.
Wishing you a week of stopping to admire the flowers in your life and remembering not to worry. God’s got this.
