Whole hog, custom processing deposit

And new for winter 2021…soy AND corn free!  This means it’s also GMO free too!  Feed your family with nutritious pork!

When you reserve a whole hog, you’ll get to choose how you would like your hog processed. This can include hams, bacon, chops, brats, side pork and/or sausage.

You will receive about 120-160lbs of ready to cook meat (about twice the size of a freezer above a fridge).

Minnesota Department of Agriculture rules require that our customers own their animals before the animals are processed, hence the purpose of this deposit.  The deposit will go towards your final total cost of the animal.

We will bill you for the remainder after your meat is weighed at the processor (about $400-$450).

Here’s what’s coming up for the December 2021 harvest time:

Up until December 20th – Reserve your whole hog via adding this item to your cart and checking out via PayPal.

Up until December 21st – Choose your cuts via a link I will send you.

December 22nd – The hogs are going from our farm to Prairie Meats in Olivia for processing.

December 23rd – Prairie Meats will let me know the weights of the animals and I will let you know the additional amount due for your pork.

Sometime after January 10th – Meat is ready to pick up!  Prairie Meats will give you a call and let you know when you can visit the shop to pick it up.


Here’s what you get:

🥓  The cost of the hog that you will pay to us, the farmers, will be $4.25/lb.

🥓  The weights for the animals are calculated on hanging weight.

—  Hanging weights are generally about 80-90 lbs for a half hog.

—  You’ll take home about 60-80 lbs of ready-to-cook meat for a half hog.

—  Double those numbers for a whole hog.

🥓  There will also be a cost to the processing facility.

—  Processing cost will vary depending on how you would like your meat processed (cutting it up, smoking, packaging, etc), but general prices are $100-$150 for a half hog and $150-$250 for a whole hog.

🥓  Total cost per pound for all cuts of pork from your whole or half hog is about $6.80/lb.
