It’s interesting to watch how animals interact in the wintertime.
Look at this picture here…notice the tiny little footprints all over in the snow on my side of the fence.
Everyday, food spills around the feeders where the animals eat.
And rather than it all just going to waste, the little songbirds come by and eagerly eat all the tiny grains that the pigs miss or what blows outside the pen.
With feed as expensive as it is, it’s nice to think about how even those little crumbs get used to keep a little creature a little bit warmer on those cold winter days.
What’s in the farm kitchen this week
I had a little time this past weekend, so I made biscuits and gravy casserole.
I’ve shared this recipe several times and every time I make it, I try to get a better photo of it.
I’m still not sure I succeeded. But don’t let the strange texture of the photo above scare you.
It’s wildly popular at our house! When I made it this time, I made two pans of it and all but maybe 2 servings were gone within a half hour.
Although I rarely have time to make a full meal in advance, this one can be, if that works for you.
Perhaps a “Christmas company is coming and I want a special breakfast but don’t want to wake up at 4am” sort of thing. Make it the night before and bake it for a fabulous brunch!
This recipe uses our awesome pork breakfast sausage…if you’re in the area and need some, we have a few packages available in the freezer, ready to thaw a cook!
Bible inspiration this week
Those little bird foot prints by the pig feed troughs made me think of this verse.
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
Matthew 6:26-27
Sometimes we don’t know the plans God has for us.
I doubt these little birds sat down with their little papers and pencils in October to plan out their wintertime food plan. I doubt they spend hours every day worrying and worrying about where their next meal is coming from.
And yet the Lord feeds them in this interesting little way.
Is there any reason at all we EVER need to worry? Did you know there is NO PLACE in the Bible that commands us to worry?
Speaking personally, this is very difficult to remember sometimes.
Actually, sadly, most of the time.
But seeing those little feet in the snow reminds me that if the birds don’t need to worry, why should I?
Encouraging you this week to remember thank Jesus…not worry.
