What’s in the farm kitchen this week
The other day I was talking to a 4 year old and…did she know that there was such thing as PURPLE potatoes and we had some in our garden? She looked at me in awe, then stopped, shook her head and said “No that’s not possible…you’re making that up.”
This is from the same kid who regularly tells me of dragons and whales who live in her backyard. 😀
Last week I mentioned the fried potatoes I made.
This week I’m cheating a little in sharing almost the same recipe….I made the fried potatoes again, but this time with the purple potatoes.
Look how pretty!
Also last week, my aunt responded to the email and mentioned she makes this and added browned hamburger to complete the meal.
Definitely a meal win! Next time I’d recommend adding hamburger.
Bible inspiration this week
I could probably note a personal story almost every week of when I started trying to run my own life instead of talking to God about it first.
And for every story, I come across yet ANOTHER Bible verse that reminds me how much less stress and anxiety there is in trusting God instead of ourselves.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.
Isaiah 55:8
I was thinking this week about how, a year ago or so, I was stressed and frazzled over my boar who appeared as though he was incapable of doing his reproduction role on our farm.
Do we get a new boar?
Are the sows pregnant?
What happens if they aren’t?
What happens if we don’t get piglets?
Etc etc.
One day I happened to think…you know I can’t single-handedly create new life by worrying. What in the world am I thinking??
Yes, there are veterinary options that can help…pigpen placements…farmer smarts….but ultimately God creates life….not me. Never just me.
Encouraging you to do as King David did and “inquire of the Lord” in every single thing. It’s just so much easier that way.
(In case you’re curious…that boar ended his days at our farm via a trailer ride to someone else’s farm and we replaced him with a much more “testosterony” boar who is very eager to do his job. To this day, I don’t know the reason for the pregnancy issues, but I try to do my best with farmer and veterinary smarts and leave the rest of reproduction to God…)
