Are we done with water tank heaters yet?

Can I wish you a Happy Spring yet?

These days in the 20s closely followed by days in the 80s have me confused. Haha!

I wonder what the livestock must think.

This picture is of one of our tank water heaters. It’s a more efficient one, so instead of pumping out heat everytime it’s plugged, it’s just meant to keep the water about 35-40 degrees. However, when it gets warm, I usually take them out and hang them outside the pen, ready to put back in if it gets super cold again. And these last weeks, I keep taking them in and out, depending on weather.

So the big question becomes….it seems warm now…can I put them into storage for the season yet?

If it gets super cold again, you can blame me…since that means I collected them all and put them away…so then we’ll invariably need them again. HAHA!

We had another batch of piglets born recently. Look who’s taking advantage of the warm heatlamp. Cheddar!

I took this video about the same time…watch those little tails go flip flip flip as they’re asleep! 😀

We were busy last weekend cleaning out the grower pig pen (the ones growing into yummy pork chops) as well as the gestating sows (the ones who don’t have babies with them).

While I always love to get all that old stuff out of there, I always feel a little sorry for the animals as the bedding pack has now gone down considerably…they went from a soft bed to a more firm one until everything builds back up again. 😀

(If you’ve been following me for the last couple months and remember the post about Oliver’s cabin, you can see how far his cabin has come in the picture above – over on the left.)

I meant to post this a week ago, but ran out of time….a recipe we made over Easter weekend – Resurrection Rolls!

A picture of a ressurection roll. Yum!

This is a fun project to do with children. Wrap a marshmallow in a piece of cresent roll, roll up and pinch the sides and bake for a short time. Then after it’s baked, the marshamallow has disappeared! It is a fun way to talk about the resurrection of Jesus…he’s put in the tomb and then after a short time the tomb is empty. 🙂 On this recipe, she notes the Bible story to tell as you make them with your child/grandchild.

We had lots of fun with the two youngest in our house.

But the older kids didn’t turn down a cinnamon/sugar/marshmallow delight either. They also remember doing this when they were about kindergarten age. 🙂

*One note about that recipe…she used large marshmallows….a mini marshmallow would be better. Ours all exploded even though they were pinched super tight.

This was tasty, but not Biblically accurate. 😀

Wishing you and your family a belated Happy Easter!

The men said to the women, “Why are you looking for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has been raised!

We are Lindsey and Naomi Johnson, along with our 6 farm kids. We are a small family farm in Gibbon, Minnesota. We spend our days experiencing God's love, growing our own food, and encouraging and teaching others to do the same. We raise our hogs with plenty of mud and sunshine and feed them an alternative diet of barley and field peas, along with summer barnyard forage and grass hay bedding 24/7/365. This means healthy and happy pigs, delicious pork, corn/soy/GMO/vaccine free! We also farrow to finish, which means our hogs are born here and live here their entire lives in a laid-back, stress-free pig paradise.

Isn’t it amazing how he sends us these wonderful little reminders when we need them the most? A modern day miracle. A surprise, but not a surprise…God provides.
